Honda has announced that it reached the milestone of 500 million motorcycles produced globally in 2025, marking a historic journey that began in 1949 with the Dream D-Type.

The company opened its first factory outside Japan in 1963 in Belgium and from then on it never stopped, with new facilities in several places around the world, such as Thailand in 1968, Indonesia in 1971, and Brazil and Italy in 1976.

In addition to this historic milestone, the company announced that it currently has around 40% of the global market share and expects to achieve a 50% share by 2031.

To this end, it is investing in new electric models, will increase the efficiency of combustion engines and will expand the line of models compatible with flex engines (which use gasoline and/or ethanol, in any proportion), very popular in Brazil and India.

honda cuv e:

Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President and Representative Executive Officer, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. said:

‘For Honda, motorcycle business is our ‘founder’s business’, and it will continue to be the company’s core business. In the motorcycle business, we have built the trust of our customers through our many products and services, which has enabled us to achieve a cumulative production volume of 500 million units. I would like to thank our customers and all stakeholders who were involved in achieving this milestone, from development to production, sales, and service. Honda will continue to take on the challenge of expanding the joy of our customers around the world.’

Honda’s journey to 500 million motorcycles:

The Beginning (1948–1959): Honda was founded in 1948 and launched its first complete motorcycle, the Dream D-Type, in 1949. In 1958, the legendary Super Cub C100 hit the market. By 1959, Honda had already become the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer.

Global Expansion (1960s–1980s): Honda began producing motorcycles outside Japan in 1963, starting with Belgium. It soon expanded to Thailand, Brazil (1976), the U.S., Nigeria, and more — becoming a truly global brand.

Iconic Models & Innovation (1969–2009): Honda launched legendary bikes like the CB750, Gold Wing, and Africa Twin. It also led in innovation, introducing the first airbag on a production motorcycle (2005) and the first dual-clutch transmission bike (2009).

Production Milestones (1968–2019): Honda hit 10 million units in 1968, 100 million in 1997, and 400 million in 2019. In 2014, the Super Cub became the most produced motorcycle in history.

Electrification & the 500 Million Mark (2022–2025): Honda kicked off its electric era with the EM1e:, introduced E-Clutch tech, and revealed concepts of its first full-size electric models. In 2025, it celebrated a massive milestone: 500 million motorcycles produced globally — and 50 years of the Gold Wing.

Honda has announced that it has won the 2025 Red Dot Design Award for the NC750X, its versatile 750cc adventure crossover motorcycle.

Recently refreshed with a new design, the model brings Honda its sixth consecutive victory, following the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP (2020), Forza 750 (2021), ADV350 and NT1100 (2022), CB750 Hornet and XL750 Transalp (2023) and EM1 e: (2024).

The NC750X’s 2025 re-styling was led by the team at Honda’s R&D centre in Rome, whose Project Leader, Valerio Aiello, commented:

“We’re delighted to receive the Red Dot design award for the NC750X. For the 2025 version, we concentrated on making it much more robust, clean and dynamic, while keeping in line with its basic concept. What I particularly like about the NC750X is its hybrid nature, in the sense that it passes through different categories of motorcycles taking inspiration from all of them: a bit adventure, a bit road and with the practicality of a scooter.”

Toshinobu Minami, Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, Design Center, Honda R&D Co., Ltd. commented:

“We are very honoured to receive the Red Dot Design Award for the sixth consecutive year, and this year, we also received the iF Design Award. Honda has launched in Europe the new 2025 CB1000 Hornet, its 1000cc ‘naked’ motorcycle and top of the Hornet family, which arrives with breathtaking performance, as well as a striking design, to dominate the segment.

The Hornet name returned to Honda’s motorcycle family in 2023, with the launch of the CB750 Hornet, a naked twin-cylinder that is a success on the European continent. After that, the CB500 Hornet arrived, to be the entry-level motorcycle in this category.

Now it’s the turn of the most powerful in the line, a bike that arrives to reaffirm the name that, in the past, was synonymous with power, modernity and aggressiveness, especially with the CB600F Hornet, which used the CBR600R engine.

2025 Honda CB1000 Hornet

To achieve this, the 2025 CB1000 Hornet uses the engine from the 2017 CBR1000RR Fireblade superbike, with some adjustments, of course, to make it more docile for use in the city.

The 1000cc inline four-cylinder engine is capable of generating up to 111.6 kW (151.7 hp) of maximum power at 11,000 rpm and 104 Nm of torque. It works together with a 6-speed gearbox equipped with an assist and slipper clutch.

To tame this beast, a cutting-edge electronic set was incorporated, such as the Throttle By Wire (TBW), 3 riding modes, Power Control, Engine Brake Control and Traction Control (HSTC) with integrated wheelie control.

2025 honda cb1000 hornet

The design of this machine is unique, transmitting pure aggressiveness that is characterized by the double LED headlight and the fuel tank, which gives the impression of ‘wings folded forward’.

Taking advantage of the occasion, the company also presented the 2025 CB1000 Hornet SP, which arrives even more powerful, with more power and torque, fully adjustable Showa suspension at the front and Öhlins at the rear, Brembo Stylema front brake calipers, and Quickshifter as standard.

The 2025 Honda CB1000 Hornet will be available in three color options: Grand Prix Red, Mat Iridium Gray Metallic, and Pearl Glare White. The 2025 CB1000 Hornet SP comes in Mat Ballistic Black Metallic, with Desert Gold Metallic wheels and Gold front forks.

The new windshield with electric and automatic height adjustment also contributes to this. It even lowers automatically after the vehicle is turned off, and returns to its last recorded position after the vehicle exceeds 5 km/h.

Honda launched the new 2025 XR 300L Tornado in Brazil, a 300cc Trail motorcycle, which revives the name that was a success there in the 2000s.

Despite being very similar and having the same proposal as the CRF300L, sold in Europe and the USA, it is based on the Sahara 300, a 300cc on/off-road adventure motorcycle existing in the brand’s lineup in Brazil.

As the Sahara 300 is more focused on short adventure trips using asphalt and dirt roads, the XR 300L Tornado follows a different path, being completely focused on off-road.

honda xr 300l tornado
2025 Honda XR 300L Tornado

In time: The new XR 300L Tornado does not have the chassis or engine of the CRF300L. As we said, it is based on the Sahara 300, bringing this model’s chassis and engine. We only mention the CRF300L for its aesthetic similarity and purpose.

To have all this off-road capability, it has fewer fairings than its ‘sister’ Sahara 300, a more compact upper body, a narrow rally-style seat, and a raised front fender. With this, it is expected to be a little lighter.

As it is based on the Sahara 300, the engine is the same, that is, a 293.5 cm³ single-cylinder with air and oil cooling, capable of generating up to 25.2 HP of maximum power and 27 Nm of torque, with Ethanol. In Brazil, most motorcycles and cars are flex fuel, that is, they can run on Ethanol or Gasoline in any proportion.

Honda takes center stage at Milan Design Week with a showcase of sustainable product design. From April 16th to 21st, the event hosts the European premiere of Honda’s latest electrified urban vehicle concepts – the SUSTAINA-C Concept car and Pocket Concept motorcycle.

These creations exemplify Honda’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions across all fronts. The SUSTAINA-C Concept envisions a future liberated from the constraints of finite resources.

Teaming up with the Pocket Concept, a compact motorcycle designed for last-mile mobility, Honda showcases its prowess in crafting sustainable transportation solutions.

Within these innovations, the fundamental component of such breakthroughs is undoubtedly a radical material strategy. At the core of the SUSTAINA-C concept, the sheets are composed of used tail lights’ acrylic resin, avoiding all paint-based processes.

honda

What it does for the environment is reduce the emissions by nearly 45 percent in its production process and what it does for the design itself is create no other possibility than these exceptional painting-free finishes that simply exploit all other aspects of aesthetics.

Coloring a mix of black and white to get the desired marble effect is what gives the panels their most important characteristic. These panels are also highly durable and able to withstand extreme weather conditions and low-level impacts.

A special quality that makes the SUSTAINA-C Concept mesmerizing is its back door made of one piece of acrylic resin, functioning as a smaller LED screen. Through this creative solution, visibility can be improved, and new interactions with the car can also be created, adding a new dimension to vehicle exteriors and safety features.

Finally, Honda also displayed the SH125i “Vetro” scooter, which is an idea and a tribute to the technical capabilities. It features unique translucent, unpainted green body panels that emits 9.5% less CO2 in one year of production compared to the standard color scheme.

Tech Upgrade: For 2024, Honda has injected even more excitement into the CB125R with an array of updated technologies. The most notable addition is the new full 5″ color TFT meter, a feature inherited from its bigger sibling, the CB1000R.

This vibrant display not only enhances the bike’s visual appeal but also provides riders with essential information at a glance, including speed, RPM, gear selection, and fuel consumption.

Performance: Beneath its stylish exterior, the CB125R packs a punch with its EURO5+ compliant single-cylinder DOHC 4V engine. Delivering a peppy 11.0kW of power and 11.6Nm of torque, this bike ensures an exhilarating ride every time.

Premium Features: The CB125R doesn’t just look the part; it’s loaded with premium features to elevate your riding experience. Full LED lighting ensures optimal visibility, while the 10.1L fuel tank provides an impressive range of over 460km.
