Yamaha launched in India the 2026 FZ-X Hybrid, its 150cc ‘neo-retro crossover’ bike, which arrives with TFT dashboard and Turn by Turn GPS navigation.

Based on the FZ-Fi, another 150cc bike sold there, but with some ‘adventurous’ features, the 2026 FZ-X Hybrid also comes with TCS (traction control) as standard, to avoid excessive slippage, and Stop & Start system, to save fuel.

In addition, the new model is equipped with LED flashers, which complements the set that already has an bi-functional LED projector in the headlight, DRL (daytime running light) and LED taillight.

Finally, the model is equipped with Smart Motor Generator, usually seen in scooters, that enables you to turn on the engine quietly and easily.

How is the FZ-X Hybrid

The 2026 Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid has a design very similar to the brand’s ‘Sport Heritage’ line, which features models such as XSR125, XSR155, XSR700 and XSR900.

It is considered by the brand as ‘neo-retro’, with some elements with a retro design, for example, the round headlamp and the flat seat.

Despite this, it brings modern features, such as LED lighting in the headlight and taillight, and a fully digital panel with connection to a Smartphone, through the Y-CONNECT APP.

To be fit for adventures, it is equipped with front fork protectors (also known as ‘boots’), dual purpose tires (but with aluminum alloy wheels) and monocross suspension at the rear.

Engine and technology

The 2026 Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is equipped with an air-cooled 149 cm³ single cylinder engine, capable of generating up to 12.4 HP (9.1 kW) of maximum power and 1.4 kgfm (13.3 Nm) of torque. The transmission is 5-speed, the fuel tank capacity is 10 liters and the weight in running order (Kerb) is 141 kg.

In addition, it features brake disc on both axles, with single-channel ABS at the front, and a side stand engine cut-off switch, which automatically shuts off the engine when engaged for extra safety.

Anyway, the 2026 Yamaha FZ-X Hybrid is available in Matte Titan, with prices starting at INR 149,990 Ex-Showroom Delhi (about US$ 1,800).

Yamaha has launched the new 2025 MT-07 in Europe, its mid-displacement naked motorcycle, which comes with a renewed design, more on-board technology and even an automated Y-AMT option.

Regarding the new design of the MT-07, it follows the lines of its bigger ‘sister’ MT-09, with a practically identical front, with a single projector headlight and two almost horizontal DRL lines.

In the wake of the new design, Yamaha says that, even with the increase in specifications, which would add 4.5 kg more than the previous model, in the end, the new model is 1 kg lighter.

2025 mt-07

Another highlight of the new motorcycle is the increase in technology, with the adoption of the ride-by-wire throttle, and three riding modes, with the option of selecting 3 power maps and 2 levels of traction control.

In addition, the model now offers the latest generation of the bidirectional quickshifter, as an option on the standard version. The version with Y-AMT automated transmission has cruise control as standard.

The engine remains the same 690cc CP2 with liquid cooling, capable of generating up to 73.4 hp of maximum power, and 6.9 kgfm of torque.

2025 mt-07

Finally, the new Yamaha 2025 MT-07 arrives in European stores in the colors Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black.

For now, there is no forecast for this model to reach other countries.

The Yamaha RD500 is turning 40 in 2024. The model was one of the most sought-after motorcycles in 1984, but it had an extremely short life.

It was the first replica of the 500GP of the 80s and had everything that was most modern for the time, such as the YPVS system, ventilated front brake discs, 16-inch front wheel, among others.

The engine of this machine was a 500cc two-stroke V4 with up to 90 HP of maximum power, fed by large carburetors positioned inside the ‘V’.

yamaha rd500lc

Unfortunately for the street bike, this space was occupied by the YPVS system, forcing the installation of smaller carburetors (26mm Mikuni) on the sides of the engine.

The Yamaha RD500 arrived in Europe (specifically in the United Kingdom) in June 1984, priced at £2,995 (the same as a Kawasaki GPz900R). Despite this ‘salty’ price, it quickly sold out.

However, due to its timid performance, the hype didn’t last long. In 1985, the company launched the FZ750, with the same performance as the RD500, but priced £200 less.

yamaha rd500lc

With this, the fate of the iconic RD500 was sealed, with its production ending in 1987, with only 1,400 units produced.

Today, if you find one of these models in good condition, it can cost around £20,000, meaning it has become a collector’s item.

Yamaha has launched the 2025 R15 Connected and 2025 R15M Connected ABS in Indonesia, its 155cc sports motorcycles, which come with new colors and graphics, while maintaining all the modern technological set.

For 2025, the R15M Connected ABS in silver receives a change in the ‘R15M’ graphic on the front fairing of the motorcycle, with a more attractive appearance that emphasizes the modern sporty characteristics of the model.

In addition, there are additional graphics on the tank that make the appearance more attractive. Finally, the front fairing and front fenders of the motorcycle are now black, changed from the previous silver color.

The standard version R15 Connected in blue also underwent graphic changes in the ‘R15’ inscription on the front fairing. The front fender appears in bright blue. On the other hand, the lower color becomes matte blue instead of glossy blue.

Finally, the ‘R15’ graphics on the black model have also changed, as well as the fairing, front fender and lower fairing, which were previously glossy black, are now matte black.

For those who don’t know, the R15 and R15M are Yamaha’s 155cc sports bikes that come fully equipped, meaning they have traction control, quickshifter, dual-channel ABS, Upside-Down front suspension, assist and slipper clutch, and aluminum rear swingarm.

The models are considered connected because they have a color TFT instrument panel with Bluetooth connection to a smartphone via the Y-Connect app. The system allows you to answer calls, locate the vehicle, record where you parked it and access its history, among other functions.

Anyway, the 2025 Yamaha R15M Connected ABS is sold in Indonesia for IDR 44,825,000 (approximately US$ 2,884). The standard version 2025 R15 Connected costs IDR 40,175,000 (US$ 2,584).

Yamaha announced that it will be using low-carbon recycled steel in the packaging frames of some motorcycles in Japan, an initiative that is part of its plan to become carbon neutral by 2050.

According to the company, the recycled steel comes from steel scraps from building demolitions, discarded appliances and vehicle scraps.

They are melted in electric furnaces, instead of the traditional blast furnace that uses coke, a derivative of mineral coal and which is very polluting. As a result, this production of recycled steel produces much less CO2.

Thus, this is the first time that recycled steel produced in electric furnaces is used in motorcycle packaging frames in Japan, according to Yamaha Motor.

yamaha

The company has the goal of being CO2 neutral across its entire supply chain by 2050, in line with the ‘Yamaha Motor Group Environmental Plan 2050’.

It will begin using recycled steel in October 2024 and plans to gradually increase the scope so that more packaging is made from recycled materials.

Yamaha launched the new 2025 MT-09 Y-AMT in Europe, its first motorcycle with automated manual transmission. With this technology, the new motorcycle eliminates the need for a gearshift pedal and clutch lever, providing a superior riding experience.

The Y-AMT (Yamaha Automated Manual Transmission) is similar to Honda’s E-Clutch electronic transmission system, which is already available as an option on the CB 650R and CBR 650R motorcycles.

But, unlike Honda’s system, the Y-AMT eliminates both the clutch lever and the gearshift pedal. To perform gear changes manually (MT), buttons were added to the handlebars, allowing the rider to reduce or increase gears.

2025 yamaha mt-09 y-amt

Furthermore, the system has a fully automatic mode (AT), letting the bike’s ‘brain’ decide the right time to change gears. In this case, the system has two different modes for use: ‘D+’, for more sporty riding with gear changes at higher revs, and ‘D’, for urban and natural riding, prioritizing low revs.

The new 2025 Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT uses the same base as the standard MT-09, featuring the same 890cc three-cylinder CP3 engine, which is capable of generating up to 119 HP of maximum power.

The design is also the same, which was updated in 2024 in Europe. Yamaha says the fairing was inspired by the styling of YZ motocross bikes. However, one of the most controversial aspects of the new MT-09 is the front optical set. The introduction of a kind of pointed fairing, with the LED headlight projector positioned centrally at the top and two lines of daytime running lights (DRL) at the bottom, created a bold and unique aesthetic.

2025 yamaha mt-09 y-amt

Anyway, with the new 2025 MT-09 Y-AMT, Yamaha tries to offer a product to satisfy the needs of those who want to focus on riding, without having to worry about changing gears or operating the clutch.

Yamaha has launched in Europe, the 2025 model of its CROSSCORE RC and WABASH RT ebikes, urban and gravel, respectively. It arrives with improvements that make it even more competent in its use.

The Yamaha CROSSCORE RC is the urban ebike for everyone, with its relaxed riding position, and is the most affordable in the range.

For 2025, it received a new engine, the PWseries S2, with more torque and less weight. Now, the unit produces 75 Nm of torque, and weighs just 2.85 kg.

In addition, it gained a rear luggage rack, with the integrated MIK click system, which allows you to easily install accessories, such as a child seat, for example.

The Yamaha WABASH RT is one of the best gravel ebikes available on the market, with a contemporary design and great versatility.

It also gained the PWseries S2 engine, with more torque and less weight, as well as mounting points on the chassis, which allow you to install various objects, as well as a new Shasta Gray color.

Yamaha has launched its automated manual transmission for motorcycles, called Y-AMT. This new technology arrives to eliminate the use of the gearshift pedal and clutch lever, providing a superior riding experience, according to the brand.

The Y-AMT is, in its philosophy, similar to Honda’s E-Clutch electronic transmission system, which is already equipped, as an option, on the CB 650R and CBR 650R motorcycles.

The E-Clutch is a system that allows gear changes without the need to activate the clutch, but keeps both the clutch lever and the gearshift pedal for manual use, if the rider prefers this option.

Yamaha’s Y-AMT system is different: both the clutch lever and gearshift pedal are eliminated. To perform gear changes manually (MT), buttons were added to the handlebars, allowing the rider to reduce or increase gears.

yamaha y-amt

According to the brand, “shifting by hand alone, as opposed to a foot-and-hand combination, is not only quicker but requires less thinking time, allowing the rider to hyper-focus on throttle and brake application, lean angle, body position and tyre grip levels to intensify the ride. It is for this reason that on Y-AMT models the shifting pedal will not be installed.”

Whether in manual or fully automatic mode, the company guarantees extremely fast changes, superior to the best ‘quickshifters’ on the market.

yamaha y-amt

The Y-AMT system uses two electric actuators to operate the gearbox and clutch, and weighs just 2.8 kg, meaning it is light and compact to be installed on current motorcycles, requiring no changes to the chassis or engine width, preserving the original characteristics.

Note that Honda’s E-Clutch is an option sold separately and can be installed on a motorcycle purchased without it. As for Yamaha’s system, it will be a variant on the production line, with the bike coming from the factory with this feature. In other words, you will have a motorcycle with a manual transmission and another with a Y-AMT transmission.

Anyway, we believe that the first models to receive this system will be the MT-07, the R7 and the Ténéré 700.

Yamaha launched the new 2025 NMAX TURBO in Indonesia. No, you’re not reading it wrong, it’s actually Turbo, referring to those turbocharged cars. But there’s a catch: the model is not equipped with a Turbocharger, it just has technology that gives the sensation of a Turbo (in Yamaha’s own words).

Let’s explain the news: The new NMAX TURBO has a new technology called YECVT (Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission), which replaces the conventional CVT transmission. It is this system that gives an extra push when necessary.

There is a button on the left handle to activate the turbo (Y-Shift), which can be set to 3 levels: low, medium and high. When overtaking, for example, you can activate the turbo, which will give you that extra push to go faster. Therefore, the company says that you get the ‘feeling’ of Turbo.

yamaha nmax turbo

Furthermore, with this technology, the scooter gained 2 riding modes: T-Mode (for city) and S-Mode (sport mode). T-Mode is suitable for everyday urban use as it delivers smoother power and saves fuel. S-Mode delivers everything the bike has, and is ideal for the road.

In terms of design, the NMAX TURBO gained more modern lines, mainly at the front and rear, with a new headlight equipped with two LED projectors, and a new LED taillight at the rear.

In the cockpit, the model also evolved: it gained a panel similar to the XMAX, with an LCD screen in the most basic versions (but with the Y-Connect system), and a color TFT screen in the top-of-the-line versions. This latest version also features the Garmin Street Cross Navigation System. There is also a USB-C socket to charge your Smartphone.

Completing the technological package are two-channel ABS, Traction Control, the Smart Key system, and the Stop & Start system (which turns off the engine when stopping at traffic lights to save fuel).

The NMAX TURBO engine is a 155 cm³ Blue Core single-cylinder, VVA, 4 Valves, SOHC + YECVT, capable of generating up to 11.3 kW (15.36 HP) of maximum power, and 14.2 Nm of torque.

Finally, the model is offered in Indonesia in 5 different versions (from the most basic to the most complete): NMAX NEO, NMAX NEO S, NMAX TURBO, NMAX TURBO TECH MAX, and NMAX TURBO TECH MAX ULTIMATE. This latest top version sells for IDR 45,250,000 (approximately US$ 2,789).

Yamaha Motor Europe announced that it is participating in the 2024 edition of GIRO-E, the electric bicycle race that had its first edition in 2019 and was created to increase awareness of sustainable mobility.

This ebike race runs ‘alongside’ the traditional and famous Giro d’Italia, which takes place from May 4th to 26th. The so-called Yamaha GIRO-E Team was created with approximately 75 participants, all group colleagues from the company’s units in Europe.

Yamaha participants use the powerful and elegant Wabash RT e-bike, a gravel e-bike that is a mix of ‘Speed’ and MTB that offers excellent performance on the asphalt, and some capability off it.

Then you ask me: Does Yamaha manufacture and sell electric bicycles? Yes, my dears, the company with the three tuning forks does not just manufacture motorcycles and pianos, but several other products, including ebikes. The company’s main ebikes are: Moro 07, Wabash RT and CrossCore RC.

yamaha wabash rt

In a spirit of teamwork and adventure, the president and CEO of Yamaha Motor Europe, Olivier Prévost, participated in a stage lasting approximately 64 km.

Speaking ahead of the GIRO-E’s start, Olivier Prévost said, “Yamaha is proud to actively contribute to creating public awareness of the GIRO-E and what it represents. Our journey began 30 years ago when Yamaha introduced the world’s first Power Assist System bicycle. As a pioneer in the eBike industry it is an honour for us to be the only GIRO-E team competing with our own staff and own bicycle technology. It will be a perfect way to foster the sense of camaraderie and experience ‘Kando’ ourselves on the Wabash RT. I’m excited to be part of this Yamaha Team!”

I’m also pleased that on one of the stages, the legendary British adventure rider and Yamaha ambassador Nick Sanders, will join us at the GIRO-E. Nick Sanders is in the middle of attempting a world record in his epic eBike World Tour on the Wabash RT and become the first person ever to ride an electric bicycle around the world,” he added.

Yamaha has registered an automatic transmission patent for its 700cc motorcycles, such as the naked MT-07, the sporty R7 and the adventurous Ténéré 700. With this, it is expected that the company will be able to rival the already launched Honda E-Clutch , present in the CB 650R and CBR 650R.

According to the drawings, the Yamaha system is different from the Honda one. It features a practically automated system, eliminating the gearshift pedal and clutch lever. Honda’s keeps them, giving the user the option of using them or not.

To change gears on Yamaha models, a set of buttons were placed on the left handlebar grip. Apparently a button to ‘use’ the clutch was also placed, this time on the right handlebar grip.

It is a system similar to the DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission), present in some Honda models, but because it is simpler, it should also be much cheaper, perfect for being implemented on ‘lower’ priced motorcycles.

yamaha patent for MT-07

Just like the Honda E-Clutch, Yamaha’s automated gearshift system will be an option sold separately and can be installed on any of the motorcycles already mentioned.

For now, there is no forecast for this system to hit the market, but it will be interesting to see the receptivity of the public, who generally buy these motorcycles to extract maximum performance and riding pleasure, including manually changing gears with traditional systems.

P.S.: In Japan, the Honda E-Clutch costs approximately US$380, well below the US$710 for the DCT system.

Yamaha announced that it received the Red Dot Design Award 2024, one of the most prestigious design awards in the world, for the MT-09 motorcycle and the XMax 300 maxiscooter.

This is the 13th consecutive time that the Japanese company has received the international award, making it clear that the company’s products bring what the jury wants.

Remembering that the jury is made up of experts from different areas of design. The registered products are analyzed based on criteria such as innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics and durability, among others.

2024 yamaha mt-09

The 2024 version of the powerful naked MT-09 brought significant changes to its front optical set, with a fairing that surrounds the LED headlight projector and the DRLs. This made the model a bit strange, but apparently the jury liked it and thought it deserved a prize.

The XMax 300 sports maxiscooter has a modern and futuristic design, with well-defined lines and a set of front lights in the shape of an ‘X’, making it very elegant and even a little aggressive.

Anyway, with another award in their pockets, we can say that Yamaha is one of the forces in terms of design, making changes and innovations that, in the eyes of some, may shock, but that definitely sets standards.

Yamaha’s Bold Move: The End of an Era for R1 Supersport Bikes https://motonewsworld.com/yamahas-bold-move-the-end-of-an-era-for-r1-supersport-bikes/ Tue, 26 Mar 2024 10:51:32 +0000 https://motonewsworld.com/?p=9716 In a surprising turn of events, Yamaha has decided to bid farewell to the iconic R1 supersport bike in terms

The post Yamaha’s Bold Move: The End of an Era for R1 Supersport Bikes appeared first on MotoNews World.

]]>
In a surprising turn of events, Yamaha has decided to bid farewell to the iconic R1 supersport bike in terms of public sales. The company announced that, like its predecessor the R6, the R1 will transition to being produced exclusively for track use, marking the end of an era for enthusiasts worldwide. But why such a drastic shift in strategy?

Over the past decade, the global motorcycle market has witnessed significant transformations. Rider preferences have evolved, influenced by changing external circumstances and increasingly stringent emissions regulations. Among the most noticeable changes is the evolution of the Supersport category itself.

Yamaha says that remains committed to serving the needs of Supersport enthusiasts. While the R1’s public sales may cease, Yamaha Motor Europe assures fans that the Supersport segment will remain vibrant. The company will focus on platform models like the R125, R3, and R7, promising to continue delivering excitement both on the road and the track.

The decision to shift the R1’s focus towards track use reflects Yamaha’s response to changing customer demands. Starting from 2025, the R1 will join the R6 in its track-only production status. But this doesn’t mark the end of the road for the legendary R1; far from it.

2022 yamaha r1 60th anniversary front

Global production of the R1 will persist beyond 2025, accompanied by ongoing development programs. The R1’s track legacy speaks for itself, having secured world titles in prestigious championships like the FIM Superbike and Endurance World Championships. It remains a popular choice for riders and teams across various racing levels.

To support enthusiasts in maximizing their track experience, Yamaha has invested in GYTR Performance parts for the R1. These parts, crafted by the same engineers behind the R1’s success in World Superbike Championships, offer enhanced performance and competitiveness.

Moreover, Yamaha has established a network of GYTR PRO SHOPS, run by passionate motorcycle racing enthusiasts. These shops provide specialized support for riders seeking to optimize their R-Series Supersport models for track use. Examples include renowned teams like Crescent Motorcycles and the GRT Yamaha WorldSBK team, showcasing Yamaha’s dedication to the racing community.

While the R1 transitions to a track-focused model, Yamaha reassures enthusiasts that the road-going homologated R1 and R1M will remain available through authorized dealers. Additionally, the company confirms its commitment to the segment with the continuation of the popular Yamaha Racing Experience event throughout 2024.

In conclusion, Yamaha’s decision to shift the R1’s focus to track use marks a significant chapter in the history of Supersport motorcycles. While it may signal the end of an era for public sales, Yamaha’s dedication to performance, innovation, and the racing community remains unwavering.

The XSR series draws inspiration from Yamaha‘s rich racing history, and in 2024, it takes a bold leap with the introduction of the new XSR900 GP.

Over the years, Yamaha has notched up numerous victories in various motorcycle racing categories, including the Grand Prix. The 1980s marked a “Golden Era” for Yamaha in Grand Prix racing, with innovations that continue to influence modern sport motorcycles.

One of the key innovations from this era was the Deltabox frame, which offered exceptional rigidity and feedback. Today, this iconic frame style remains at the core of many Yamaha motorcycles, including the XSR900 GP.

The XSR900 GP embodies the “Faster Sons” philosophy, respecting the past while incorporating the latest in performance and technology. Its upper cowling, inspired by 1980s Grand Prix bikes, pays homage to Yamaha’s racing history. The tubed structure connecting the cowling to the frame and the use of a beta pin fastening are reminiscent of that era.

yamaha xsr900 gp

Also, the XSR900 GP features a race-bike look with design cues from the 1980s, including a squared-off upper cowling and a colour-matched seat cover that conceals the rear light. The iconic yellow number boards harken back to the Grand Prix machines of the 1980s.

Clip-on handlebars give the XSR900 GP a sportier feel, shifting the rider’s position forward for enhanced control and a precise riding experience. The adjustable footrests and thicker seat provide both comfort and a sporty riding position.

To support the forward-leaning position, the XSR900 GP’s frame areas have been tuned for stability in turning. It features an aluminum steering stem shaft for a balance between lightness and stability.

yamaha xsr900 gp

In addition, the XSR900 GP incorporates modern suspension and braking components, including fully adjustable KYB front forks, a link-type rear suspension, and a Brembo radial front master cylinder. It also boasts Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) for customized riding experiences, with preset modes and the ability to adjust electronic rider aids via a smartphone.

Anyway, the XSR900 GP brings the glory of Yamaha’s racing history into the modern era, offering riders a blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge performance that’s truly spectacular.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is renowned for showcasing some of the most impressive and iconic vehicles in the world, and this year, motorcycle enthusiasts were in for a treat as Yamaha debuted the highly anticipated XSR900 DB40 Prototype.

The prototype, which made its first public appearance at the prestigious event, is a fusion of Yamaha’s rich racing heritage and cutting-edge modern technology, perfectly encapsulating the essence of Yamaha’s Sport Heritage range.

At the heart of this remarkable motorcycle lies a piece of racing history: the Deltabox chassis. Back in the 1980s, Yamaha revolutionized motorcycle engineering with the introduction of the Deltabox chassis in their Grand Prix race machines. The innovative technology quickly found its way into road bikes and has remained a cornerstone of many Yamaha motorcycles for four decades.

The Deltabox’s name derives from its unique design, representing a triangle (symbolized by the Greek letter ‘Delta’) that links the head pipe to the swingarm pivot, while its cross-section resembles a box. This ingenious configuration offers unparalleled rigidity and feedback, providing riders with exceptional handling and control where it matters most.

Yamaha Motor Europe is gearing up to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its groundbreaking R1 supersport motorcycle. The Yamaha Racing Experience (YRE), scheduled to take place at Italy’s legendary Mugello Circuit on July 21st and 22nd, will serve as the backdrop for dedicated activities and festivities commemorating the iconic machine’s remarkable legacy.

Since its introduction in 1998, the Yamaha R1 has been a game-changer, redefining performance and innovation in the motorcycle industry. The R1’s 25-year journey is a testament to Yamaha’s unwavering commitment to engineering excellence, establishing it as a symbol of speed, power, and cutting-edge technology that revolutionized the sports bike market.

At the core of the 1998 R1 was an innovative 998cc, liquid-cooled, four-cylinder engine featuring a five-valve-per-cylinder head, redesigned valve sizes for improved torque, and enhanced porting. However, the real breakthrough came with Project Leader Kunihiko Miwa’s ingenious decision to create the world’s first vertically stacked gearbox in a production motorcycle. This innovative design resulted in a lighter and shorter engine, allowing for a longer swingarm, which improved traction while maintaining a conventional sports bike wheelbase.

Yamaha continued to refine and enhance the R1 over the years. The 2000 model featured over 250 parts revisions, including engine and chassis enhancements, more aerodynamic bodywork, and a new titanium muffler. In 2002, the R1 entered its next generation, featuring a groundbreaking vacuum-controlled fuel injection system and a lighter and stronger Deltabox III frame.

Building on its legacy, Yamaha launched the next-generation R1 in 2009, featuring a ground-breaking crossplane crankshaft engine derived from Yamaha’s MotoGP M1. This unique design reduced inertia forces and provided a more linear throttle connection. The 2009 R1 set new standards for handling and performance, with Ben Spies claiming the 2009 WorldSBK title.

The R1 continued to evolve, incorporating a traction control system in 2012 to enhance drivability and fuel consumption. In 2015, the R1 became the first production motorcycle equipped with a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and electronic support systems derived from MotoGP. The 2015 R1 also introduced the limited edition R1M, catering to racing and track day enthusiasts with its electronically controlled suspension and onboard data logger.

The 2018 R1 added a Quick Shift System (QSS) with a blipper function for clutchless up and downshifting, refining the bike’s performance on the street and track. Yamaha further improved the R1’s handling performance with revised suspension settings and an enhanced Lift Control System. The R1M received Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension with an updated interface for intuitive setup.

In 2020, the R1 featured a new CP4 engine with improved cylinder head, camshafts, and injection system. Yamaha also refined the electronic rider aids, introducing an Engine Brake Management (EBM) system and Brake Control (BC) system for enhanced control. The R1’s chassis performance was improved with revised damping valves and a reduced spring rate.

To mark the 25th anniversary, Yamaha Racing Experience at Mugello will host a special celebration for the R1. The event will be open to R1 owners for the first time, allowing them to participate in track sessions, receive expert advice from Yamaha racing technicians, and enjoy exclusive tours of the Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK pit box. The celebration will feature an exhibition of R1s from different eras and a collection of memorable race bikes, showcasing the enduring legacy of the R1 in the world of motorcycling.

As Yamaha continues to push the boundaries of innovation, they have introduced the R1 GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing). Developed by Yamaha’s in-house specialist racing component division, the R1 GYTR is designed for track-day riders and racers who value Yamaha’s winning performance and premium quality.

The 25th-anniversary celebration at the Yamaha Racing Experience promises to be an exclusive event, bringing together R1 and R1M owners to celebrate these iconic machines.
