Toprak Razgatlioglu, BMW Motorrad rider in the WorldSBK Superbike Championship, dominated the Emilia-Romagna round, held at the Misano circuit, and took the lead of the championship.

The Turk completed the so-called hat-trick, that is, he won all three races of the weekend, giving BMW its first triple victory in history.

It didn’t work for the reigning champion Alvaro Bautista (Ducati), much less for his teammate and rookie Nicolo Bulega (Ducati). Toprak dominated ‘at Ducati’s home’.

Bautista didn’t have a good feeling with the bike throughout the weekend, but he managed third place in the two main races, race 1 and race 2. In the Superpole race, he crashed and didn’t score any points.

bulega worldsbk

Bulega, on the other hand, performed much better, and led the races for several laps, but was unable to hold or keep up with Toprak’s pace, finishing in second place.

Toprak showed that he is already well-acquainted with the bike and, even so, he said that this is just the beginning, as he expects better performance in the next rounds.

This is very bad news for the competition because, if they are not able to keep him now, imagine if he has something else in his pocket.

Rev up your engines, folks, because Liberty Media Corporation is making waves once again in the world of motorsports. Known as the powerhouse behind Formula 1, Liberty Media has just announced a game-changing move: the acquisition of Dorna Sports, the esteemed owner of MotoGP and WorldSBK.

For those not in the know, MotoGP isn’t just another motorcycle race—it’s the epitome of two-wheeled adrenaline. Picture 22 of the fastest riders tearing up the track on purpose-built prototype motorcycles, hitting mind-boggling speeds of over 360 kilometers per hour.

Since its inception in 1949 with just six European rounds, MotoGP has evolved into a global phenomenon, boasting over 20 Grands Prix across five continents and captivating audiences in the hundreds of millions worldwide.

Under this groundbreaking agreement, Dorna Sports S.L., the driving force behind MotoGP, will maintain its autonomy within Liberty Media’s Formula One Group tracking stock. And fear not, fans—Carmelo Ezpeleta, the visionary CEO who’s been steering the ship since 1994, will continue to lead the charge alongside his seasoned management team from the bustling streets of Madrid.

But MotoGP isn’t the only jewel in Dorna’s crown. The company also holds exclusive rights to a slew of other adrenaline-pumping motorcycle racing series, including the Moto2 and Moto3 feeder series, the electrifying MotoE World Championship, the heart-pounding WorldSBK Championship, and the groundbreaking FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship.

So, what’s the deal? Liberty Media will snag approximately 86% of Dorna, while the management team retains around 14% of their equity in the business. The acquisition rings in at a staggering enterprise value of €4.2 billion, with an equity value of €3.5 billion, and MotoGP’s existing debt balance will remain untouched post-close.

Greg Maffei, the President and CEO of Liberty Media, couldn’t contain his excitement: “We are thrilled to expand our portfolio with the acquisition of MotoGP. With its global fan base, captivating racing, and robust financial profile, MotoGP is a goldmine waiting to be unleashed. We’re eager to work alongside Carmelo and his team to elevate MotoGP to new heights, reaching fans far and wide.”

And Carmelo Ezpeleta echoes the sentiment: “This is a monumental moment for MotoGP and Dorna. With Liberty Media’s expertise, we’re poised to take MotoGP to unprecedented levels of success. Together, we’ll ignite the passion of fans across the globe and usher in a new era for motorcycle racing.”

Buckle up, racing enthusiasts, because the MotoGP journey is about to kick into high gear. With Liberty Media at the helm, the future of two-wheeled racing has never looked brighter.

If you thought you’d seen it all in the WorldSBK Superbike Championship, Catalunya just raised the bar. Picture this: Toprak Razgatlioglu, with a Valentino Rossi-like maneuver, snatches the Superpole race victory from Alvaro Bautista’s grasp in a nail-biting final corner showdown at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. If that doesn’t get your heart racing, I don’t know what will!

From the get-go, it was a rollercoaster of adrenaline-pumping action. Andrea Iannone stormed off the line, leaving everyone in his dust, while Toprak Razgatlioglu and Alex Lowes jostled for position. But it was Sam Lowes who stole the spotlight, only to be dethroned by Razgatlioglu’s daring move to the front.

As the race heated up, Bautista staged a comeback, setting the stage for an epic battle in the final laps. With the top four riders neck and neck, every corner became a battleground. Bautista made his move, seizing the lead from Razgatlioglu, but the drama was far from over.

In a move reminiscent of Rossi’s legendary pass on Lorenzo in 2009, Razgatlioglu launched a daring attack in the final corner, leaving Bautista in his wake. The crowd erupted as Razgatlioglu crossed the finish line, securing his second win of the weekend.

But Bautista wasn’t about to let Razgatlioglu steal all the glory. In Race 2, he came back with a vengeance, engaging in a fierce battle with teammate Nicolo Bulega. It was a fight to the finish, with Bautista emerging victorious, marking his first win of the season.

The drama didn’t end there. With Iannone crashing out and Petrucci making a late surge, the race was a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish.

In the end, it was Razgatlioglu who stole the show with his fearless performance, proving once again why the WorldSBK Championship is a must-watch for any motorsport enthusiast.

In a thrilling showcase of skill and strategy, Alex Lowes, the formidable force from Kawasaki Racing Team, secured a breathtaking victory in the Australian round of the 2024 WorldSBK Superbike Championship.

Lowes left the competition in the dust as he clinched not one, but two sensational wins during the electrifying race weekend at the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

The drama unfolded in Race 2, which was red-flagged due to intense on-track action. With nerves of steel and adrenaline pumping, Lowes seized his moment of glory on the final lap at Turn 9.

With sheer determination, he executed a jaw-dropping maneuver, swooping around the outside of Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) at Lukey Heights. The move was nothing short of spectacular, catapulting Lowes to victory and igniting the crowd with sheer excitement.

But the adrenaline-fueled spectacle didn’t stop there. As the race reached its crescendo, drama ensued on the track. Locatelli’s valiant efforts came to a heartbreaking halt when his daring attempt to overtake Lowes ended in a crash at Turn 4, ultimately forcing him to retire from the race. This set the stage for a nail-biting showdown between Bautista and the unstoppable Kawasaki rider.

In a pulse-pounding finale, Lowes and Bautista battled fiercely for the coveted top spot. With milliseconds separating them, Lowes showcased nerves of steel as he held off Bautista’s relentless pursuit, crossing the finish line with a mere 0.048-second advantage. The crowd erupted in awe and admiration at the sheer spectacle of skill and determination displayed by these titans of two-wheeled racing.

Lowes’ triumph marks his fourth victory in the WorldSBK series, with an impressive track record at the legendary Australian circuit. It also signifies his ascent to the top of the Championship standings, a position he hasn’t held since the 2020 Australian round. Meanwhile, Bautista’s second-place finish adds yet another podium to his illustrious career, while Danilo Petrucci’s stellar performance earns him a well-deserved spot on the podium, showcasing the relentless competitiveness of the WorldSBK grid.

As the dust settles on an unforgettable race weekend, Lowes’ dominance on the track cements his status as a force to be reckoned with in the world of Superbike racing. With Kawasaki’s 180th victory under his belt and a renewed Championship lead, Lowes has set the stage for a thrilling season ahead, promising fans around the globe more heart-stopping moments and adrenaline-fueled action on the track.

]]>
In a bold stride towards greener racing, BMW Motorrad Motorsport has teamed up with NORDOEL to introduce a groundbreaking alternative fuel to the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK).

The fruit of this collaboration, the RacE-Fuel WSBK R40-A, promises not only to uphold engine performance but also to drastically slash CO2 emissions, marking a significant leap towards sustainability in motorsport.

The genesis of this eco-friendly fuel dates back to March 2023, when BMW Motorrad Motorsport and NORDOEL unveiled their partnership aimed at mitigating the environmental footprint of racing.

Named RacE-Fuel WSBK R40-A, this innovation is crafted through a fusion of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable production processes. The result? A fuel that not only meets the rigorous demands of high-performance racing but also champions environmental stewardship.

The spotlight now shines on the World Superbike Championship season in Australia, where the RacE-Fuel WSBK R40-A is set to make its official debut. With a minimum of 40% “non-fossil” content, in compliance with FIM regulations for 2024, this regenerative fuel represents a paradigm shift in the way we approach racing fuels.

But before its grand entrance onto the WorldSBK stage, rigorous testing was imperative. In January, amidst the scenic backdrops of Jerez (Spain) and Portimão (Portugal), initial trials of the alternative fuel were conducted. The ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, the Bonovo Action BMW Racing Team, and the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Test Team collaborated tirelessly to fine-tune the efficiency and performance of the RacE-Fuel WSBK R40-A. The verdict? Success.

Christian Gonschor, Technical Director of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, affirming, “All of our bikes were on the track with this new fuel during testing in Spain and Portugal, and we are happy with this collaboration.” This sentiment echoes the shared commitment of both BMW Motorrad Motorsport and NORDOEL to spearhead sustainable technologies in motorsport.

Dirk Wullenweber, Commercial Director of Fuel and Marketing at NORDOEL, echoed this enthusiasm, stating, “Our goal is to create sustainable solutions for the motorsport industry, and this CO2-reduced fuel is a significant step in that direction.” With aspirations to develop a 102 octane fuel boasting 99% CO2 savings, akin to eFuel 95 Octane (99% renewable), the partnership remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of eco-friendly innovation.

As the world eagerly anticipates the dawn of a new era in WorldSBK, propelled by the revolutionary RacE-Fuel WSBK R40-A, BMW Motorrad Motorsport and NORDOEL stand as beacons of progress in the quest for sustainable racing.

The world of superbike racing witnessed another epic chapter as Alvaro Bautista, riding the formidable Panigale V4 R for the Ducati team, clinched his second consecutive World Superbike WorldSBK Championship title.

Bautista’s thrilling campaign culminated in his coronation at the Jerez – Angel Nieto Circuit, following an impressive victory in Race 1, on Saturday, and Superpole race and Race 2, on Sunday.

The race began with Bautista determined to establish a lead over his competitors, while Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) started from the seventh position.

Toprak knew he needed to win the race to keep his title hopes alive, but Bautista was not willing to yield. Despite Razgatlioglu’s early pressure, the reigning champion managed to extend his lead, reaching nearly a second’s advantage by lap 11.

Needing just two points to secure his second title, Bautista crossed the finish line with a little over a second’s lead, solidifying his position as a two-time SBK world champion.

This victory also made history as he became the first Ducati rider to retain the title since Carl Fogarty in 1998 and 1999. It’s remarkable to think that when Bautista and Ducati parted ways in 2019, no one foresaw their reunion in 2022 and 2023, clinching back-to-back titles.

Bautista’s 2023 season was marked by a stunning start. From the first round at Phillip Island, where he secured a hat-trick of victories, it was clear that Bautista was in top form.

In the following 12 races, he won 11 of them, showcasing an impressive dominance. His determination and speed allowed him to equal and break records, such as the number of consecutive wins on a Ducati and the number of wins in a single season.

However, the second half of the season was not without challenges. Toprak Razgatlioglu and other competitors found their form, resulting in intense battles.

Moments like Bautista’s defeat in the Imola Superpole Race and a crash in Race 2 at Donington Park tightened the championship race. Nevertheless, Bautista displayed his resilience, recovering points and staying focused on his goal.

Bautista’s coronation in Jerez marked the thrilling end of an incredible season. His exceptional performance placed him in a special place in the world of superbike racing, making him only the fifth rider in history to claim consecutive titles. With Ducati, he made history by defending the World Superbike Championship title.

Alvaro Bautista is a living legend in the world of superbike racing, and his journey to a second title is a testament to his skill, passion, and determination. His achievements leave fans eager to see what the future holds, as Bautista continues to etch his name in the two-wheeled sport.

The revving engines and screeching tires of the WorldSBK Superbike Championship are about to get a serious upgrade in 2024.

A high-profile meeting of the Superbike Commission, featuring key players like Gregorio Lavilla, Paul King, and Biense Bierma, recently unveiled some thrilling technical changes for the upcoming season.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s in store:

1. Fuel Flow Control: In a bid to embrace environmental guidelines and boost future machine development, a mandatory fuel flow control system will be implemented from 2025. But, in 2024, manufacturers will experiment with this concept as two bikes from each maker will feature a fuel flow meter, collecting vital data during practices and races. This paves the way for a greener and more competitive WorldSBK.

2. Fuel Tank Reduction: The size of the fuel tanks gets a trim in 2024, with a new maximum capacity set at 21.0 liters. This change will keep the competition tight and the strategies even more thrilling.

3. Combined Weight: The agreement between FIM, DWO, and MSMA in 2024 introduces a combined weight for rider and machine. It’s a new challenge that will surely spice up the races and showcase the athletes’ skills.

toprak yamaha

4. RPM Limits: There’s a shift in how RPM limits are set. No longer will they be reduced during the season, except for FIM-DWO RPM reduction intervention in the case of superconcession overshooting. This change is sure to keep the engines roaring at their best.

5. Crankshaft and Balance Shaft: Modification is the name of the game. Manufacturers can now tweak the crankshaft and balance shaft weight by up to 20% from the homologated weight. This opens up possibilities for enhancing performance.

6. Checkpoints and Concession Tokens: The 2024 season introduces a more frequent review of checkpoints and concession tokens, measured every two events. It’s a step towards keeping the competition dynamic and fair.

7. Superconcession and Concession Parts: The approval process for superconcession parts has been streamlined. Outline approval now occurs a month prior to the event, with detailed approval just 14 days before the technical control day. This change eliminates the need to describe superconcession parts in the FIM SBK regulations.

These exciting changes are set to redefine the WorldSBK Championship, making it even more thrilling, competitive, and environmentally conscious.

Stay tuned for a formal meeting on October 28th during the final round of the Championship, where more technical and sporting points may be discussed.

In a thrilling showdown at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, Alvaro Bautista, riding for Aruba.it Racing – Ducati, secured a resounding victory in the WorldSBK Superbike Championship.

Bautista faced fierce competition from the determined Turkish rider, Toprak Razgatlioglu, on a Yamaha. The race was a rollercoaster of adrenaline, with both riders battling fiercely until the very last moments.

Bautista initially led at the start but relinquished the lead to Razgatlioglu at Turn 1. The two riders exchanged positions multiple times during the early laps, showcasing their exceptional skills and determination. It was a nail-biting spectacle as they swapped the lead 35 times during the race.

The Spanish rider managed to regain the lead on several occasions, with both riders pushing the limits of their machines. Bautista’s Panigale V4R and Razgatlioglu’s Yamaha YZF-R1 displayed incredible power and traction throughout the race. However, it was the Ducati that ultimately prevailed in the race to the finish line.

This victory marked Bautista’s 56th win for Ducati, solidifying his place in the history books of the manufacturer. He surpassed the legendary Carl Fogarty’s record of 55 wins, making him the most successful Ducati rider. Razgatlioglu’s valiant effort earned him his 113th podium and 31st of the season, while Michael Ruben Rinaldi, also from Aruba.it Racing – Ducati, secured third place.

With this impressive win in Portugal, Bautista has taken a significant step towards clinching another World Superbike title. He needs only two points to become a two-time champion, and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll falter in the final round in Jerez, Spain.

In a move that is sure to send shockwaves through the world of motorcycle racing, Jonathan Rea, the six-time World Superbike Champion, is bidding farewell to Kawasaki and is set to make a remarkable transition to Yamaha for the 2024 WorldSBK Championship.

After nine incredible seasons with Kawasaki, Rea has decided to embrace a new challenge in Yamaha blue, joining forces with Paul Denning’s Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK squad.

This monumental switch marks the end of an era for Rea, who has not only been a consistent force in WorldSBK but also a defining figure in the history of Kawasaki.

During his tenure with the team, Rea clinched all six of his World Superbike titles, amassing an astonishing collection of over 100 race victories. However, the time has come for the Ulsterman to embark on a fresh adventure in the world of Yamaha.

jonathan rea

Replacing Toprak Razgatlioglu, who is making a bold move to BMW for the upcoming season, Rea will be lining up alongside Andrea Locatelli, who also holds a contract for the same period.

Yamaha, the very manufacturer that halted Rea’s title streak in 2021, is now poised to be the backdrop for his next championship quest. It was in a nail-biting final-round showdown in Indonesia that Toprak secured the crown for Yamaha. Nevertheless, the 2022 season saw a relentless contest between the “Titanic Trio” – Rea, Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati), and Razgatlioglu – with Bautista ultimately emerging as the champion.

Notably, Rea’s journey in WorldSBK has encompassed three different manufacturers: Honda, Kawasaki, and now Yamaha. His World Superbike odyssey commenced with Honda in 2008, where he initially took on a part-time role before securing a full-time seat in 2009. With Honda, Rea celebrated 15 victories before making the pivotal move to Kawasaki.

This switch to the green team marked the beginning of an era, with Rea’s exceptional talent translating into six titles, 104 wins, and a staggering 256 podiums in total.

Now, as he transitions to Yamaha, the motorsport world eagerly anticipates the next chapter in Rea’s storied career. Eric de Seynes, President & CEO of Yamaha Motor Europe, expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, “We truly believe that Jonathan can add to his World Championship tally, writing his name even larger in the history books, and we are equally confident that he can achieve this together with us.”

With Rea’s drive, determination, and hunger for success, combined with Yamaha’s commitment to excellence, the 2024 and 2025 World Superbike seasons promise to be nothing short of spectacular.

In a move that promises to shake up the world of motorcycle racing, Alvaro Bautista, the reigning World Superbike Champion, is gearing up for an electrifying wildcard appearance at the Grand Prix of Malaysia for the MotoGP Championship.

The powerhouse duo of Bautista and the Aruba.it Racing team are poised to grace the Sepang International Circuit from November 10th to 12th, 2023, following their triumphant World Superbike Championship campaign.

The anticipation surrounding Bautista’s wild card entry is palpable, with enthusiasts from all corners of the globe eagerly awaiting the high-octane action.

What adds an extra layer of excitement to this already riveting event is the timing of the Grand Prix – a mere two weeks after the conclusion of the Superbike World Championship WorldSBK in Jerez, held from October 27th to 29th.

Ducati aficionados are in for a treat, as the Malaysian showdown marks the third wildcard appearance of the 2023 season for the Italian marque. The exhilarating journey began earlier in the year when Michele Pirro took to the track at Mugello in May, followed by the upcoming spectacle at the San Marino GP in Misano. This time, the spotlight shifts to Bautista and the Aruba.it Racing team, who have been making waves with their distinctive livery.

The intrigue deepens as Ducati solidifies its partnership with Aruba.it, mirroring the liveries of the factory Panigale V4R machine in the World Superbike Championship. The union of precision engineering and captivating aesthetics has proven to be a recipe for success, a true spectacle for fans and competitors alike.

The road leading to the Grand Prix of Malaysia has been paved with promise, highlighted by Bautista’s recent exploits aboard the Ducati Desmosedici GP. Two resounding tests at Misano have provided compelling evidence of the reigning World Champion’s mettle and the Ducati’s prowess. Bautista’s return to the MotoGP arena after his last appearance at the 2018 Valencia GP is nothing short of a narrative masterpiece, poised to captivate audiences anew.

Alvaro Bautista: “I’m really happy to be able to race in MotoGP as a wildcard at Sepang, a track that I really like and that I’m happy to be back at since it’s not on the WorldSBK calendar. The tests with the Ducati Desmosedici GP gave positive feedback: the feeling was good, and I had fun. I want to sincerely thank Ducati and Aruba.it because, without them, it would have been impossible to have this opportunity. At the same time, I would like to say that this MotoGP race will be a bonus for me and not a priority.

“That’s why we must stay focused on the WorldSBK Championship, which is the only thing that matters now. I want to stay focused for this last part of the season, which will be very demanding, with many races in a short time. The feeling with the Panigale V4R machine is good, and I hope to continue on this path. Then, when the season ends, we’ll think about going to Malaysia and having fun. Now I’ll have a little holiday, and then we’ll be back at Magny-Cours.”

In a sport where milliseconds separate victory from defeat, Alvaro Bautista’s wildcard entry is a bold statement – a symphony of power, precision, and passion. As the Grand Prix of Malaysia approaches, the world holds its breath in anticipation of a spectacle that promises to be etched in the annals of racing history.

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) emerged triumphant at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola during the Italian Round of the WorldSBK Championship.

The Turkish star capitalized on a dramatic opening lap crash by Alvaro Bautista (Ducati), dramatically closing the gap in the championship standings by a maximum of 25 points.

The stage was set for an intense battle as the reigning champion, Bautista, shot off the grid, taking the lead in the shortened 15-lap race. However, his hopes were shattered when disaster struck at Turn 3, sending him careening into the gravel and prematurely ending his impressive winning streak in 2023.

Seizing the opportunity, Razgatlioglu swiftly moved into the lead, with teammate Andrea Locatelli narrowly avoiding the chaos caused by Bautista’s crash. However, Razgatlioglu’s bid for victory would not be without fierce competition from the ambitious Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing), who charged forward in pursuit of his maiden win.

Bassani executed a daring maneuver, surging from fourth to second place. He capitalized on Locatelli’s error at the final chicane on Lap 2, seizing the opportunity to blast past both Locatelli and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki). Bassani’s audacious move put him in striking distance of the leading Yamaha rider, narrowing the gap to just over a tenth of a second by Lap 7.

The tension continued to mount as Bassani made his move on Razgatlioglu, attempting to snatch the lead at the Villeneuve chicane before ultimately finding success at the left-hand hairpin of Tosa. Initially creating a slight gap, Bassani’s advantage was short-lived as the tenacious Razgatlioglu refused to be left behind.

With just a few laps remaining, Razgatlioglu launched a counterattack, making a daring move into Rivazza 1. Although Bassani defended fiercely, the Yamaha rider’s determination prevailed as he secured a vital lead. Seizing the opportunity to showcase his prowess, Razgatlioglu pushed ahead, crossing the finish line to claim his first feature-length race win of the 2023 season.

This victory marked Razgatlioglu’s 36th career win and his 102nd podium, while simultaneously notching Yamaha’s 410th rostrum in World Superbike history. Bassani, displaying remarkable talent, matched his best result by securing his sixth podium in the Championship, while Rea achieved the rare feat of earning two feature-length race podiums in a single round in 2023.

Amidst the exhilarating battle for the lead, Bautista’s teammate, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, claimed fifth place, followed closely by a gripping battle for sixth between Bradley Ray (Yamaha Motoxracing), Loris Baz (Bonovo Action BMW), and Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad). Ray emerged victorious, achieving a career-best sixth-place finish while Baz narrowly edged out Redding to claim seventh.

As the dust settles on the Italian Round of the WorldSBK Championship, the series continues to deliver breathtaking racing and intense competition. In a fierce battle for the top spots at the WorldSBK Championship during Race 2 at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” for the Emilia-Romagna Round, Álvaro Bautista (Ducati) emerged as the dominant force, securing an impressive victory and completing a hat-trick of wins at Misano.

Bautista showcased his exceptional skills while donning a special yellow livery for Ducati, while his teammate, Michael Ruben Rinaldi, unfortunately crashed out of contention while fighting for a podium position.

As the lights went out, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) took the holeshot and led into Turn 1, with Rinaldi engaging in a thrilling battle with his teammate at Turn 4 to claim second place.

However, it didn’t take long for Bautista to make his way to the front of the pack, overtaking his teammate and Razgatlioglu at Turn 8 on the second lap. From that point on, Bautista managed to create a gap between himself and Razgatlioglu, while the Turkish star found himself under pressure from Rinaldi.

The pressure soon took its toll on Razgatlioglu as the duo fought for second place, resulting in Rinaldi overtaking the 2021 champion at Turn 8 on lap 3. Although Rinaldi pulled away, Razgatlioglu began closing the gap, but by the halfway mark, Rinaldi managed to stabilize the lead at around three tenths of a second.

On lap 13, Razgatlioglu once again narrowed the gap, determined to snatch second place from the hometown hero. He successfully overtook Rinaldi at Turn 8 on lap 15, but Rinaldi kept the pressure on, resulting in contact between the two riders at Turn 1 as Rinaldi attempted to reclaim second place. Unfortunately, Rinaldi’s race came to an end as he went off into the gravel.

Initially a battle for fourth place, the fight between Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) transformed into a battle for the final spot on the podium following Rinaldi’s crash.

Rea made initial progress, but Bassani responded on lap 3, overtaking Rea and securing what would become third place. Bassani claimed his first home podium and the first of the 2023 campaign, creating a gap between himself and Rea.

The Emilia-Romagna Round provided thrilling on-track action, with Alvaro Bautista’s dominance and victory stealing the spotlight. Bautista showcased his exceptional riding skills, securing a remarkable hat-trick of wins at Misano while representing Ducati with a special yellow livery.

In a surprising turn of events, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK) will bid farewell to Yamaha at the conclusion of the 2023 WorldSBK Championship season.

After four successful seasons with the Japanese manufacturer, Razgatlioglu will embark on a new challenge, although his destination remains unconfirmed. The Turkish rider clinched the 2021 title, becoming Yamaha’s first SBK World Champion since Ben Spies in 2009.

So far, rumors say that at least two official teams may be interested in the Turk: BMW and Honda. Of course, these are just rumors and now, with the confirmation that he is not staying with Yamaha, negotiations will begin and, who knows, even Ducati and Kawasaki may want this exceptional rider.

In addition, the rider had possibilities of joining MotoGP, but apparently he discarded this adventure, since ‘he didn’t feel the prototype bike, what he feels in the superbike bike’ (you can read his statement below).

toprak

Razgatlioglu signed up with Yamaha for the 2020 season and immediately left a strong impression while riding the Yamaha YZF-R1. He triumphed in the inaugural race at Phillip Island, marking a remarkable debut with the team. Wrapping up his 2020 campaign, he secured two more wins at the Estoril Circuit, concluding the year on a positive note and paving the way for his championship-winning performance in 2021.

Maintaining his remarkable performance, he carried his impressive form into the 2022 season, concluding the year with a remarkable 14 victories, surpassing the number of wins he achieved during his championship-winning campaign. Nevertheless, despite his exceptional efforts, he came agonizingly close to the championship title, settling for second place just behind Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati).

At 26 years old, Razgatlioglu will depart from Yamaha at the end of the current season, seeking a fresh challenge after four seasons aboard the Yamaha YZF-R1. Both Yamaha and Razgatlioglu are still determined to compete for the championship in the 2023 season.

Commenting on the announcement, Razgatlioglu said, “I want to thank the entire Yamaha family for the love and respect they have shown me. Winning the World Championship was my dream when I signed with Yamaha, and we achieved that goal together. For the next season, I feel that I need a new challenge, and although there was an opportunity in MotoGP™, I didn’t feel the same connection with the MotoGP™ bike that I have with the superbike. But if I’m staying in WorldSBK, I need a new target, a new ambition. I regret leaving Yamaha, both the brand and the people, as we have a very good relationship, but change is part of any sport and is normal for any professional. So, a big thank you to Yamaha Motor Company, Yamaha Motor Europe, Yamaha Motor Turkiye, the Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK team, and especially my team.”

With Razgatlioglu’s contract expiring at the end of the 2023 season, his future was a subject of debate, having previously signed a two-year deal covering the 2022 and 2023 seasons. With his future now separate from Yamaha, Andrea Dosoli, Road Racing Manager of Yamaha Motor Europe, stated, “We regret to see Toprak leave Yamaha at the end of this season. We wanted to continue what has been an incredibly successful partnership, with the obvious highlight being the triple crown of rider, manufacturer, and team world championships we achieved together in 2021. We made what we felt was an offer that properly reflected Toprak’s value as a rider and ambassador for Yamaha, as well as the competitiveness of our racing package and our racing strategy within the WorldSBK platform.”

“However, as negotiations progressed, it became clear to both parties that Toprak is motivated to embrace a new challenge in 2024, and we respect his decision. While our paths diverge at the end of the year, we are now fully focused on the battle for the 2023 SBK world title, which resumes shortly at Misano. Lastly, I would like to thank Toprak on behalf of Yamaha, but also personally, for his invaluable contribution to our SBK project. His first World Championship title in 2021 was a deserving reward for him, but also for all the people who have worked hard to make this project a success since our return to SBK in 2016. It is a memory that everyone at Yamaha will cherish. We wish Toprak all the success in the future, but for now, we have a job to finish.”

Repsol Honda Team’s Marc Marquez has unfortunately confirmed his absence from the upcoming Spanish GP due to his ongoing recovery from a recent injury.

The MotoGP rider underwent a medical check at the Ruber Internacional Hospital on Tuesday, April 25th, where it was confirmed that his intra-articular fracture of the first metacarpal on his right hand has not yet fully healed.

Despite the fact that his clinical and radiological progression was deemed satisfactory, the nature of the fracture and the time elapsed has led Marquez and his medical team to continue with his recovery and preparation over the coming weeks. As a result, Marquez will focus his possible return on the French GP, taking place from May 12-14.

Marquez expressed his regret at having to miss the Spanish GP, which is always a special event for him. He acknowledged the unique atmosphere and the thrill of racing at home, but ultimately decided that participating in the race in Jerez would have been too risky.

Stepping up to replace Marquez at the upcoming Spanish GP is Iker Lecuona, who is currently racing for Team HRC in WorldSBK. Lecuona, a former MotoGP rider himself, is no stranger to the high-pressure world of professional motorcycle racing and is eager to showcase his skills on the Repsol Honda team.

While Marquez’s absence will undoubtedly be felt by his many fans, the Spanish GP is sure to deliver plenty of excitement and drama. As always, the competition promises to be fierce, and with Lecuona’s inclusion in the lineup, anything can happen.

For Marquez, his focus now shifts to making a full recovery and returning to the track as soon as possible. He expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from his fans and supporters and promised to keep working hard to come back stronger than ever.

MotoGP returns on April 29th, with the Spanish GP, at the Jerez – Ángel Nieto circuit.

Alvaro Bautista, from the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team, was the highlight of the Dutch Round of the WorldSBK Championship, held at TT Circuit Assen, by winning all three races of the weekend.

With this dominance, the Spaniard secured Ducati’s 400th victory in the history of the WorldSBK, making the Italian manufacturer the first to reach this mark in the competition.

Bautista led the race for the lead in Sunday’s race from the start, facing heavy pressure from challengers including Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki), who retired after a crash. Razgatlioglu was second, while Andrea Locatelli, his teammate, was third.

With that victory, Bautista reached the mark of 40 WorldSBK victories, all won by Ducati. Furthermore, the race at Assen was the 700th time the team has been on the podium in the competition.

Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, the 2021 WorldSBK Superbike World Champion, is gearing up for an exciting new challenge as he gets the chance to test the cutting-edge Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP bike during an upcoming development test at the prestigious Jerez circuit, in Spain.

Accompanied by Yamaha’s esteemed MotoGP Test Rider, Cal Crutchlow, Toprak is set to embark on a thrilling two-day testing session on April 10th and 11th at Jerez.

This eagerly anticipated opportunity marks the Turkish sensation’s second outing aboard the Yamaha YZR-M1, with his first attempt at Motorland Aragon last year sadly curtailed by adverse weather conditions.

The Jerez circuit, spanning 4.428 kilometers, aligns perfectly with Razgatlıoğlu’s distinctive riding style. This upcoming test promises to be an ideal platform for the Turkish prodigy to amass valuable track time and acclimate himself to the nuances of the YZR-M1 machine.

toprak yamaha m1 test

Lin Jarvis, Managing Director Yamaha Motor Racing Srl: “Firstly, let me say it is our pleasure to be able to give Toprak another opportunity to ride the YZR-M1. I was unable to be present at his previous test but this time I will be in Jerez to follow the testing and I will depart straight from there to attend the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin next weekend. Toprak is an extraordinarily talented motorcycle racer, and I am very curious to see his speed on our Factory MotoGP machine. He will have the chance to ride alongside Cal who will be there for the ongoing development testing of our 2023 YZR-M1.”

Andrea Dosoli, Road Racing Manager Yamaha Motor Europe N.V.: “I would like to thank both Yamaha Motor Company and Yamaha Motor Racing for giving Toprak the opportunity to test the YZR-M1 once again. As the reigning Superbike World Champion, Toprak’s test aboard the Yamaha YZR-M1 last year was highly anticipated by many in both the MotoGP and WorldSBK paddocks. Unfortunately, it was difficult for him to fully familiarise with the YZR-M1 at the Aragon test due to the disruption caused by the weather. This time around at Jerez, a track at which Toprak has traditionally been very strong, it looks like we’re going to enjoy almost perfect testing conditions. Toprak’s focus at this test will, once again, be on getting a feel for the characteristics of the YZR-M1 and the Michelin tyres, whereas we are very interested to see how quickly a WorldSBK rider of his calibre can adapt to the unique demands of riding a MotoGP bike.”

Toprak Razgatlıoğlu: “I am looking forward to testing the YZR-M1 MotoGP bike at Jerez, a track I like a lot. The last test in Aragon was limited by the weather, but in Jerez it looks like we’ll have better conditions and more track time. It will give me the chance to understand better the demands of racing a Factory MotoGP bike. Thanks to Yamaha for giving me this opportunity.”

As the anticipation builds, fans and experts alike eagerly await the outcome of Toprak Razgatlıoğlu’s highly anticipated Yamaha YZR-M1 test at Jerez. With his unwavering talent and the ideal track characteristics, Razgatlıoğlu’s second chance to showcase his skills aboard the cutting-edge MotoGP machine is poised to be nothing short of electrifying. As he blazes through the corners and pushes the limits, motorcycle racing enthusiasts brace for an unforgettable display of speed, skill, and sheer excitement.

Jonathan Rea, the six-time WorldSBK Champion, recently made some candid comments to the WorldSBK website about the challenges he and his team are facing this season. Rea spoke openly about the need for improvements in his bike and his concerns about the future direction of Kawasaki.

Rea acknowledged that his team needs to make some changes if they are going to stay competitive in the championship. “I expected it to be tough, but not that tough,” begins Rea, after completing the MotorLand Aragon test. “It’s very hard because we need to improve but I don’t think it’s our reality. We got it wrong by not maximizing our setup in both weekends. Phillip Island was a real curve ball, but I feel like we threw away a race win in the first race, but I had a shifter problem, so I had to manually shift up and down the gearbox all race, which took away a chance to fight for a win. Not that it’d change much about Sunday’s races, as again I had two riders up the inside of me at Turn 4 – Aegerter in the Superpole Race and Bassani in the long race, and that dictated my race. This concerned us as I was looking after my tire and it was a strange situation, not something we expected.”

“Then, in Indonesia, we just got things wrong setup-wise, I don’t think it’s our true reality, but I know we need to improve. Right now, in WorldSBK, Ducati have a real strong package and their Independent bikes are at the front now and they’re fighting in the mix with the top five or six riders. Andrea Locatelli’s improved and so has my teammate Alex, so those top seven or eight riders are fast and if you don’t get away with Alvaro and Toprak, then you’re in that melee and if you’re struggling to pass already, then you can’t make progress anyway. That’s how it was in the first two rounds.”

This statement highlights the challenge that Rea and his team face. While they have had a lot of success in the past, they cannot rest on their laurels. The competition in World Superbike is fierce, and every team is constantly looking for ways to improve their performance.

jonathan rea

Rea also expressed his concerns about the future direction of Kawasaki. He admitted that he is not privy to the company’s plans, but he believes that it is important for his team to think forward and stay ahead of the curve. “I don’t really follow the company direction; Kawasaki is Kawasaki and they’ve been incredibly amazing to me, and I can’t grumble as they do keep improving a bike. It’s a big decision for a production company like Kawasaki to make an adjustment to their homologation. We’ve had a couple of them but they’re very reactionary to what is going on in WorldSBK; we need to think forward now but I’m not privy to the future direction of Kawasaki. We give them a lot of information and data from the track and hopefully we’ll see that start to filter down to the production models soon.”

These comments show that Rea is not just focused on the current season but is also looking ahead to the future. He understands that staying competitive in World Superbike requires a long-term strategy and a willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.

Overall, Rea’s comments to the WorldSBK website demonstrate his commitment to staying at the top of his game. He knows that he and his team face challenges, but he is confident that they can overcome them with the right approach. As always, Rea will be one to watch in the upcoming races as he continues to push himself and his team to be the best.

Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista exhibited an outstanding performance throughout the weekend in Indonesia, securing victories in both Race 1 on Saturday and Race 2 on Sunday, for the WorldSBK Championship.

In contrast, the biggest rivals for the 2023 season title, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki), had a frustrating weekend at Mandalika, with the Kawasaki rider performing the worst of the two.

Toprak managed to secure a victory in the Superpole race, but unfortunately, he failed to maintain the momentum in the main races of the weekend. In the race where Toprak emerged victorious and Yamaha took the top two spots, Bautista crashed and failed to score any points.

Jonathan Rea endured a miserable weekend with disappointing results. He finished in the ninth position in Race 1, managed to finish fourth in the Superpole race, but his performance further declined in Race 2 as he struggled to reach the fifth position and eventually crashed out of the race, leading to his retirement.

Toprak and Rea both experienced difficulties with grip on the scorching asphalt of Mandalika, where the temperature soared above 51 degrees. While Rea encountered issues primarily with the front of his bike, Toprak faced challenges with the rear.

Bautista, therefore, was the best performer. In race 2, he started from the tenth position, managed to overtake several riders and, in the final laps, managed to reach the leader, his teammate Michael Ruben Rinaldi, pass him easily, and cross the finish line for another victory.

In this last race of the day, another one who stood out and got his first podium in the category was Xavi Vierge (Team HRC), who had a solid race, took advantage of the situations that happened in front of him, and finished third.

Thus, with the result of the weekend in Indonesia, Bautista is the leader with 112 points, Toprak is second with 75 and Andrea Locatelli is third with 70 points.

Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista dominated the weekend in Australia by winning race 1 on Saturday and the Superpole and Race 2 on Sunday for the WorldSBK Championship.

On the other hand, the biggest rivals in the 2023 season title dispute, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) and Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki), had a frustrating weekend in Philip Island, leaving a bitter flavor of defeat in their mouths.

Toprak even managed to finish on the podium in the first two races (was third in both) but, in Sunday’s main race, did not perform well, ended up fighting for fourth position, was hit by Alex Lowes (Kawasaki) motorcycle, ended up falling and had to retire.

Jonathan Rea finished the first race in second place, but the other two off the podium, demonstrating that the bike did not yield what should yield on the hot Australian track.

rinaldi worldsbk

Bautista, therefore, did not forgive, and won the three races quite easily. He said he felt great with the bike, that he is very fond of the Philip Island track, and that the highest temperature also helps in his performance.

The confirmation of the absolute domain of the Borgo Panigale factory on this iconic track came with four Ducatis crossing the finish line in the first five positions of race 2, consolidating its power in the competition.

Another who showed a good pace with Ducati was Michael Ruben Rinaldi, Bautista’s teammate, who finished two Sunday races in second position.

With the three wins, the Spaniard got a great advantage in the leading of the championship at the beginning of the season, and leaves a warning signal to their opponents. Of course, for now it was the first round, and many coming tracks may not favor Ducati.

Thus, with the result of the weekend in Australia, Bautista is the leader with 62 points, Andrea Locatelli the second with 34 and Rea the third with 31 points.

Alvaro Bautista, a Ducati rider in the WorldSBK Championship, became the 2022 World Champion this Sunday, coming in second in race 2 of the Indonesian round.

In addition to this second place, the Spaniard came fourth in the Superpole race and second in Race 1, held on Saturday, and with that, he was left with an advantage that can no longer be reached, with just one round to go.

Who won all three races was Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha), the only competitor who still had a mathematical chance of winning the title. Despite having done his part, he depended on a bad result from the Spaniard to take the decision to Australia.

But it did not. Bautista had an almost perfect season, dominating most of the races and knowing how to manage when victory was not possible.

But he didn’t do it all alone. He had at his disposal an incredible machine, the Ducati Panigale V4 R, which this year proved to be superior to its rivals, as well as a team that always did a good job to put him in a position to fight for victory in each race.

With that, the Spaniard became the first World Champion with a Ducati bike since 2011, when Carlos Checa was crowned by an independent Ducati team.

A little about Alvaro Bautista

Spanish rider Bautista, from Talavera de la Reina, Toledo, Spain, won his first WorldSBK title just over a week from his 38th birthday, this being his second World Championship crown following the 125cc World Championship title in 2006.

In 2007 he moved to the 250cc World Championship, where he stayed for three seasons, finishing fourth, second and fourth in the standings, before switching to MotoGP in 2010.

He scored three podiums and one pole in his time in MotoGP before switching to WorldSBK with Ducati in 2019, where he instantly battled for the title.

There were 11 consecutive victories, in a start to the season of total domination, but in the second part, he began to face problems and many crashes, finishing second in the fight for the title.

The move to Team HRC in 2020 and 2021 has been difficult for Bautista as he has claimed three podiums in two years, although the experience accumulated in those two years has helped his return to Ducati, claiming his first WorldSBK crown.

Finally, the WorldSBK Superbike World Championship returns from November 18 to 20, with the last round of the 2022 season in Philip Island, Australia.

Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista dominated the weekend in Argentina by winning race 1 on Saturday and race 2 on Sunday for the WorldSBK Championship and came very close to the title.

In addition to the two victories, the Spaniard came second in the Superpole race and, with that, was the rider who scored the most points this round, further increasing his lead over the second in the Championship.

On Saturday, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) tried to hold the Ducati rider, made a mistake on the first lap, and ended up crashing. He managed to return to the race, but only finished in 15th position, scoring just 1 point.

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki), on the other hand, fought a fierce battle with Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Ducati), but only managed to overtake him at the end and had to settle for second place on the podium.

On Sunday, in the Superpole race, Rea made a mistake in braking when fighting for the lead of the race, and finished third, with Bautista ahead of him. Who won was Toprak, to make up for the mistake in race 1.

In the main race on Sunday, Bautista did not start well, he lost some positions but, little by little, he recovered and was very close to Toprak again, with Rea fighting at the front with Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Ducati) and Alex Lowes (Kawasaki). Once again, the six-time World Champion made a mistake in braking, and lost some positions. He managed to retake some, but finished third.

bautista ducati worldsbk

After a few laps, Bautista showed more pace than the riders in front of him, and decided to overtake. First was Toprak, then Lowes, and finally, his teammate Rinaldi. It didn’t take long and Toprak also did his move, passed the two and got very close to the Spaniard. But, lap after lap, he couldn’t get close to try to overtake. With that, he was losing touch and had to settle for second place.

Thus, Bautista got a big advantage in the Championship lead and can already be champion in the next race, in a combination of results. In addition, he can afford not to score points in some races, where he still remains in the lead.

Therefore, with the result of the weekend in Argentina, Bautista is the leader with 507 points, Toprak the second with 425 and Rea the third with 409 points.

Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista won race 2 this Sunday at the Portugal round, for the WorldSBK Championship, and practically kept his lead in the championship.

Who managed to break the Spaniard’s good streak of victories was Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha), who won race 1 on Saturday and the Superpole race on Sunday.

Despite the two victories, the Turk managed to reduce just 3 points in the gap to the leader, as Bautista finished in second in those two races and won race 2.

Sunday’s last race was well contested, first between Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) and Toprak, and later, between the Turk and Bautista. Early on, Rea took the lead and applied his pace, which wasn’t that strong. Toprak decided to wait a while and save tires. Bautista also adopted the conservative strategy and did not attack.

After 5 laps, the Yamaha rider decided to take the lead, as Rea wasn’t pushing as hard. Quickly, Bautista took advantage of the occasion and also overtook the Kawasaki rider.

The Spaniard was very close to Toprak for practically the entire race, and even managed to overtake him on the main straight, but was overtaken back in the hard braking of the first corner.

toprak yamaha

At a certain point, Bautista managed to enter the last corner much closer to Toprak, overtake and open a certain advantage before braking, making it impossible for the Turk to attempt a maneuver.

But Toprak didn’t give up, he stayed very close for several laps and even carried out an overtake at another point on the track, but on the main straight he was overtaken back. With just a few laps to go, and with the tires well degraded, he preferred to consolidate his second position and stay alive to fight another day.

The biggest loser in this round was Rea, who only finished third in the three races, and saw his disadvantage to leader Bautista increase even further.

Therefore, with the result of the weekend in Portugal, Bautista is the leader with 448 points, Toprak the second with 392 and Rea the third with 366 points.

Ducati rider Alvaro Bautista won all 3 races in the Catalunya round, in Spain, for the WorldSBK Championship, and opened up more advantage in the lead of the championship, as his main opponents, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) and Toprak Razgatlioglu ( Yamaha), disappointed.

Despite not having achieved a good qualifying (only fifth on the grid), Bautista made an impeccable start in the 3 races, and took the lead in the first corner. It was like he was riding a rocket, or participating in a drag race.

After taking the lead in the races, the Spaniard rode calmly to victory, proving to be with much more equipment than his rivals. With that, he opened up even more gap lead in the championship, despite not having scored in race 2 of the previous round, in France.

As mentioned, who made a weekend to forget were the other two title challengers, Jonathan Rea and Toprak Razgatlioglu. Both said they suffered a lot from tire degradation, but acknowledged that the Ducati rider rode too much, he was unreachable.

Despite the sour taste in his mouth, Rea managed to finish second in Race 1 and in the Superpole race. In race 2, he managed only fourth place. On the other hand, Toprak suffered the most as he was fifth in race 1, fourth in the Superpole race and third in race 2.

In race 2, who also stood out was Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Ducati), who flighted a lot with Rea, Toprak and Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing), but managed to finish second, making it 1-2 to the official Ducati on the podium, the first time this season.

It was not the first time that Bautista managed to win all 3 races in a round, but the last time had been in 2019, coincidentally, by the same current team.

Therefore, with the result of the Catalunya weekend, Bautista is the leader with 394 points, Toprak the second with 335 and Rea the third with 327 points.
